MEET THE MAKER
Just 15 miles southwest of Florence, in the rolling hills of Chianti Classico, the I Tattoli estate has been in the Bini Smaghi family since 1428. For generations, the family has cultivated this beautiful piece of Tuscany, and today Cristina Bini Smaghi is carrying that legacy forward with a passion all her own.
A Milan native with a background in literature, art history, and design, Cristina moved to I Tattoli full-time in 2016 and immersed herself in the world of extra virgin olive oil. She studied olive cultivation and tasting, sought out leading experts, and set out to bring new thinking and sustainable practices to a centuries-old tradition. Today, she is involved in every step of production, from caring for the trees and overseeing the harvest to tasting, milling, and bottling.

With 2,500 organically tended olive trees and a collection of native Tuscan varieties, I Tattoli produces exceptional Italian extra virgin olive oil under the strict standards of Chianti Classico D.O.P. Cristina’s dedication has earned the estate international recognition and a place on the menus of Michelin-starred restaurants. Her work is a beautiful continuation of the family’s relationship with the land, rooted in tradition but always looking toward what comes next.
WHY WE LOVE IT
We love I Tattoli for its refined, distinctly Tuscan character. This medium-intensity blend of Leccio del Corno, Frantoio, Moraiolo, and Pendolino olives opens with the lively aroma of misticanza, wild chicories, and fresh herbs. On the palate, elegant notes of artichoke, thistle, and green almond lead to a bright, peppery finish.
It has a beautiful green brilliance that makes it especially delicious drizzled over grilled vegetables, tossed with a simple pasta, or poured generously over a slice of rustic bread. This is an Italian extra virgin olive oil to savor, not simply cook with.
And the bottle is beautiful enough to make a gift of its own. Designed by renowned Italian photographer Oliviero Toscani, the label celebrates the art, history, and landscape of Tuscany, making I Tattoli a particularly lovely choice for anyone who appreciates exceptional food and a beautiful story.
